All About the Girls

First, the baby girl. At 13 months, Brooklyn is coming out of her days in babyland and moving into full on toddlerhood! She is everywhere at once and into everything in a second. Boundaries don't exist to her, and my new job, apparently, is to see how many times I can say, "No!" in a 2 minute period. I'm exhausted and she is full of energy. She has slowed her weight gain down considerably, but is now sprouting upwards! She is very tall at almost 32 inches, and a healthy 22 pounds. We've discovered that she has a sensitivity to milk, so she is on a lactose free milk for a few months, and then I'll try again when she is a little older. She is my first kid who has ever had an allergy or an intolerance to something; luckily it is very mild and isn't hard to accommodate.

As for her skills, she is coming along nicely. She is a talker and says lots of different things. She is trying to repeat what you say and is learning to follow directions. She is coming slowly along in her large motor skills. She has physical therapy once a week and is showing great improvement in the areas of crawling, pulling up, and cruising. Her walking abilities are still lagging; she does a weird, dragging thing with her right leg that the therapists are trying to figure out. She is in shoes almost full time to try and correct her right foot which turns out. Even though the actual walking milestone seems far in the distance, Brooklyn can now climb up onto things! She can get herself up onto the couch, and if the gate is left open, can make her way all the way upstairs. Yes, I have five heart attacks a day.

London is almost 3. Can you believe it? I can't. She is just a bundle of love and happiness. One of our latest learning curves has been her hair. She, sadly, received my part of the gene pool with that, and has super fine baby hair that is taking half of forever to grow in (not joking...it has taken 9 months to grow 2 inches). She has a weird cowlick at the front of her head which makes bangs impossible. Luckily, the little love begs me to curl her hair and put it in bows, so I get lots of practice. Her vocabulary is growing by the day, and she is almost completely understandable now, unless she gets really excited. Her favorite song is the ABC song, she can count to 10, and knows some of her colors.

Having two girls brings me such joy. I love the sisterly love that I'm starting to see grow between them, and I can't wait for the nights I hear them whispering to each other in the darkness. I am so thankful for these sparkly, glittery additions to our family!
