We did it! I organized it all, prepared it all, worried over it all, cried once or twice over it all...but we did it! Jackson started 2nd grade!
I'm so much more comfortable with it all than I was last year. I have confidence in the curriculum, and I can see that Jackson is actually being challenged, which is a nice change of pace. I feel like I chose the perfect grade for him. His reading skills are more like 3rd-4th grade, but all the other subjects he seems to be right on point with 2nd. People keep asking him if he started kindergarten this year, and he looks at me like, "What are they talking about?!". "I'm in 2nd grrraaaaddddeee!", he'll reply with a huff and puff, like its completely normal for a 5 year old to be in 2nd grade. That's exactly what I want him to think!
His favorite subjects so far are reading and science. The only place we seem to be having an issue in is handwriting, which is to be expected. By 2nd grade, most children are 7-8 and have had 2 or more years of practiced handwriting, therefore a lot of assignments require more writing than he is used to. So, we are working on that, and eventually he will catch up as his physical abilities start to match his mental ones.
I'm so proud of him! 1 week down, 35 to go!

Love it! So cute. All that LA writing can be a lot...even for my 2nd grader (last year) who is several years older than yours! I always tried to make sure he did a good job in his HW workbooks and then his copy work and then I did a lot of the writing while he dictated for LA. Took a lot of the frustrations out and I think he got to practice the most important part which was creative thinking and putting thoughts together in a way that made sense. I try to make LA as fun and "easy" as possible where I can, because it is a DRAG trying to get a little dude to do that much writing...which really isn't the point, ya know?! Wish you lived closer!!!!
