One of the subjects Jackson will be studying this year is Foreign Language, which we've chosen as Latin and Greek since they have such a strong foundation in the English language. Learning these subjects will only help him in reading, writing, and grammar, so we figured it's better to teach him now than wait until college!
The program we chose is called English From the Roots Up. He is working on the Volume 1 set. Through the elementary years, the best way a child learns is through memorization, and that is how this program is set to work. He has 50 flashcards that are Greek and 50 that are Latin. He learns the words through memorization, and on the back of each card there are lists of how that particular word is rooted in words of the English language.
Jackson LOVES it. The first night they came we just let him dig through them. He learned, on his own, about 10 words and then started using them in sentences! He loves looking through the cards, learning new words, and putting them into sentences.
If you aren't homeschooling, this program is an excellent way to supplement your child's education at home, especially if they seem to do well with things like flashcards.
This kid is already smarter than me. ;)
